What is digital printing?

Digital printing used to be referred to as “copying”. The copying technique was pretty simple. Place the original on the glass, close the cover, select the quantity, and from there the machine cloned the image placed on the glass. Today, we use a more modern technique using laser and ink-jet printers. An image is sent directly to the printer using digital files. The most popular of these files being PDF’s and those from graphic softwares such as Illustrator and InDesign. Not to be limited, digital presses are also capable of reproducing files of various formats such as .JPG and .DOC files.

When should you use digital printing?

This is the best option when you need high quality, low quantity printing. Digital presses use toner and liquid ink and do not involve setting plates. When smaller quantities are needed, digital is the more affordable choice. Digital printing also offers variable data capabilities. Variable data capability allows for personalization of each piece. Variable data printing is used when each piece needs a unique code, name, number or address.
